Endoscopic brow lift

Eyebrow ptosis, or sagging brow, is caused by the lowering of the brow versus its natural position.

It can affect one or both eyes and it can affect facial expression significantly. Even if it is as little as 2 or 3 mm, an image of sad or tired look can easily be portrayed.

Similar to dermatochalasis and eyelid bags, sagging eyebrows play a very important role in one’s look. The results following the procedure are often surprising. Ones gaze becomes wide open, providing an energetic expression in addition to a wide awake, youthful look.

What is the treatment?

It is strictly necessary to perform a complete examination to determine the contributing factors to the periocular aging situation. The appropriate technique to be applied can only be determined on a case by case basis.

The initial examination will entail:

  • Taking accurate measurements of the drop of each eyebrow.
  • The assessment of the facial expression of the patient to seek harmony in the upper third of the face and in their look.
  • Determining the patient’s skin type.
  • Determining the level of muscular ligament.
  • Assessing the possible existence of other associated symptoms, such  as eyelid ptosis (drooping eyelid), dermatochalasis (excess skin), eyelid bags, malar fat atrophy, etc.

How can we lift the eyebrow?

1) Botulinum Toxin

The use of the toxin in depressor muscles of the eyebrow will decrease their function, allowing the rise of the position of the eyebrow.

With this treatment we are able to change the position of the eyebrow. The toxin treatment has a limited life span of about 6 months. To maintain its effects, the patient must be treated periodically.

2) Direct brow lift

It consists of surgically removing excess skin, making a small incision as close to the eyebrow hair or a frontal wrinkle as possible, in order to keep the scar out of sight. With this procedure, a natural brow lift is achieved.

3) Endoscopic Brow Lifting

This is a microsurgical technique of facial rejuvenation that requires minimal incisions (1.5 cm) behind the hairline of the scalp and these will remain invisible.

Through these small incisions, the necessary endoscopic instruments are used for the delicate dissection of the different levels. Due to the fact that this is endoscopic surgery, it is has minimal trauma effects.

The aim here is to tighten the frontal levanter muscle of the eyebrow as well as the skin of the frontal region, lifting it from its natural position.

In Spain there are very few surgeons who master this technique. However, Dr. Estrella Fernandez has extensive experience in this field, thanks to her international training and her work in leading hospitals.

Unlike the open forehead lift that requires a long incision in the patient’s forehead, and which requires a longer recovery period and that can affect sensitivity, the endoscopic technique is much less invasive and thanks to the use of an endoscope, the size of the incisions are significantly decreased, improving postoperative healing and post-surgical recovery time.

The endoscopic forehead lift is a minimally invasive technique performed, as with the brow lift, under local anaesthesia with sedation, on an ambulatory basis, making hospitalisation of the patient unnecessary. The patient will be able to go straight home, from where they can follow the indications of the oculoplastic ophthalmologist.

Both the surgical and non-surgical techniques we apply are mildly invasive, painless, and provide a fast recovery. The results are spectacular, natural and permanent.
