How does it manifest itself?
It does so with an excess of skin. As we all know, the look of a person gives us an impression of what that person is like, thus a bright and attractive look will provide the appearance of a bright person, full of vitality. On the other hand, a fatigued or aged look will make one look tired, with little energy, older than one actually is. The changes that take place with age in the periocular area (the area surrounding the eye) are responsible for the aging and tired appearance of eyes, sometimes meaning that the appearance of our eyes does not correspond with one’s vitality, mood or actual age.

How can this be corrected?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and improve the position of the fat and muscle of the upper eyelid. It is performed under local anaesthesia. Incisions are made in the natural wrinkles of the skin to keep them out of sight. Together with blepharoplasty we can associate other procedures to further rejuvenate the periorbital region; such as the endoscopic forehead facelift or periocular lipostructure LINK ® (lipofilling) LINK . By doing so, we can obtain spectacular results in rejuvenating the way a person looks.

It is important that during surgery the eyelid preserves its full functionality, which is essential to protecting the eye.

This is a surgical procedure lasting between 40 minutes to 1 hour. It is performed under local anaesthesia, on an ambulatory basis, which makes hospitalization of the patient unnecessary. The patient will be able to go straight home, from where they can follow the indications of the ocular-plastic ophthalmologist.

Are there any associated risks?
When surgery is carried out by experienced ocular-plastic surgeons, complications are rare. However, as with any surgery, there might be some risk of infection and slight asymmetry in the healing of the affected tissue. The edema and bruising of the eyelid region is usually very discreet and disappears in a matter of days.

Our patients can usually resume their daily routine within 48 hours following the procedure.

Dr. Estrella Fernandez specialises in solving postoperative complications of other surgeons. Both the surgical and non-surgical techniques that we carry out are mildly invasive, painless, and provide a fast recovery. The results are spectacular, natural and permanent.
